spent many years with my video camera tucked into a fanny pack and a heavy still-image camera around my neck. I feel beyond wealthy for those years and a sense of responsibility to share the wealth if that is even possible.

If the merit of a piece can be weighed against opposition to its production, then CHARLIE CHARLES is a personal triumph! So often I felt the voiceover language was edited by Charlie’s spirit, that my adopted Tlingit mother sat whispering on my other shoulder, and then came my own creative license. I spent hours yielding to perspectives and filtering my voice. Ann Keenor was 92 when she began to recall for me her "Old Country" childhood years at Glacier Bay. I attempted to honor her and her father, Charlie Charles, "a great hunter and dancer"through Anne's voice. She, a Tlingit elder, whose memories of her childhood summers at Glacier Bay grow ever more rare and important and must be remembered. I wish to express gratitude for my beautiful Tlingit name, Koosh Ka, who was Ann's older sister whom she never met. Fanny and Charlie Charles from the Tlingit village of Hoonah, Alaska, had 18 childern. Anne was their youngest child.

any were fortunate to call Bill Ruddy, "friend." I was one. I was lucky to have sailed with Bill many times on the Princeton Hall. This video preserves a tiny piece of Bill's remarkable history. The Juneau Marching Band will find his narrative of special interest. Bill's "Santa Story" came about one morning on the Princeton Hall during what we four called the "Easy Cruise." The Welshman, Harry James, was at the wheel, and Ed Grant, whom fish feared, followed in his own boat. Ed's story is glorified in his own video, The four of us slipped away for a brief, glorious time at sea and at rest, one tiny window for that, most unforgettable cruise.

And, KK ....

Always KK to me, I took her passing hard. She was special to everyone. Unique, I might add, her laughter, my gentle memories of our walks and talks. Kathy loved Bill and family first, followed by the Princeton Hall and the Native Community, The aisles of Fred Meyer were populated by her countless friends, extending one shopping trip into a gathering of ideas, projects, and engagements from community serice to the generosity she extended to those she invited for a Taku Harbor cruise aboard the MV Princeton Hall. KK loved wrens and hummingbirds. KK loved everything and everyone. There: fixed! I made this little piece after she passed. It's for everyone, but perhaps me most of all. I shall post them both on YouTube when I am ready. Until then, these portions of them, of Bill Ruddy and Kathy Kolkhorst belong in my personal journals of them, of the Princeton Hall, and of my many years in Juneau, in a different time, on different days, golden days, I would give anything to live again.

What am i doing in kansas ? ....

In 2012,
..... I produced these videos as one piece which included a fourth segment on the French Explorer, LaPerouse. I considered tossing it, but each time I viewed it I felt I could not let go of it! So, I broke the one long piece into three separate volumes and produced an altogether separate Lituya piece. I hope you will enjoy!
