VIDEOS, MY VIDEOS

FROM MY YOUTUBE GALLERY:  WHY NOT?

May 14, 2021  Volume 3. OH!  HOW I STRUGLED to write about CHARLIE CHARLES and the Great Bear. It took months. If we measure the importance or impact of a piece by the opposition to its production, this might be considered a very good piece! I experienced software problems and footage “malfunctions.” However, more challenging is/was the voiceover language, the feeling that Charlie’s spirit wanted it “this way,” and that Ann Keenor, my adopted Tlingit mother was at my shoulder scolding me to push harder, that it has taken so long. She was 92 when she told me this story from her vivid childhood memory. I filled in blanks with great caution wishing more than anything that they would be pleased.

The bear footage was random captures. Two shots are from the Fortress of the Bears in Sitka, Alaska. I captured the bear feeding along the shoreline from a skiff as the tide and wind kept pushing the boat closer to shore. I was amazed that I got it that well! The long, lean walking bear was shot in Glacier Bay, along Reid Glacier’s shoreline. A hungry fellow, salmon runs that far into the bay are limited because of glaciers and silt in the water. I spent many years in Alaska with my video camera tucked into a fanny pack and a heavy still-image camera around my neck. I feel beyond wealthy for those years and a sense of responsibility to share the wealth if that is even possible. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I enjoy the results! BEST! Susan

I too am borrowing it!

My glory is I had such friends as
Bill and Kathy Kolkhorst Ruddy!

WHO DOESN'T WISH THEY SAID THIS FIRST?

Well, they didn't!  Except for William Butler Yeats.  He said it first, "Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends."

Many were fortunate to call Bill Ruddy, a "friend."  I was one and more, lucky to have sailed with Bill many times on the Princeton Hall. These stories preserve a tiny piece of his remarkable history. Those in the Juneau Marching Band will find his narrative of special interest.  Bill's Santa story came about one morning on the Princeton Hall during what we called the "Easy Cruise."  Harry James, the Welshman was at the wheel, Ed Grant, whose story is glorified in his own video, Bill and I, slipped away for a brief, glorious window when he shared this story about his grandmother.

And, KK!

Always KK to me, I took her passing hard.  She was very special to everyone.  Unique, I might add, winsome smile, gentle memories of our walks and talks.  Kathy loved Bill, the Native Community, and the Princeton Hall best.  Mix her two girls in there, all her friends down all the aisles of Fred Meyer, and ideas.  She loved wrens and hummingbirds.  KK loved everything and everyone.  There: fixed!  I made this little piece after she passed.  It's for everyone, but perhaps me more.  Like Bill's video, they aren't on YouTube, however, I shall endeavor to make them available in a search.  Perhaps I shall change my mind about that because Bill and Kathy belonged to everyone.  Their histories mingle with everyone in Juneau.  For now, their videos live on my site!

BILL RUDDY,

What am i doing in kansas ? ....

2012:  I produced these videos as one piece which included a fourth segment on the French Explorer, LaPerouse.  I considered tossing it, but each time I viewed it I felt I could not let go of it!  So, I broke the one long piece into three separate volumes and produced an altogether separate Lituya piece.  I hope you will enjoy!
